Short answer
Buyers can see the return address on Etsy labels, your shop location, and your profile city. Some business sellers also have a business address shown, but only if it differs from their home address. To change the label address, open Settings, Shipping settings, Shipping label options, then edit Shipping From.
Key takeaways
- Etsy calls the Shipping From address your “return shipping label address.” You change it in Settings, then Shipping settings, then Shipping label options.
- In nine Etsy help pages, we found seven places that ask for an address or a location. Based on Etsy’s text, three of them are shown to buyers whenever you fill them in.
- Etsy shows a business address only for some business sellers, and only if it differs from your home address. Under the US INFORM Consumers Act, the address appears in order confirmation emails. For sellers with business or trader status, EU buyers see it in listings and shop details.
- We found no such home-address exception for the Shipping From field. The address you enter there is the return address on the label.
- The Etsy Payments “Home address” field is an identity check. Keep your real home address there, even after you move the label address somewhere else.
Before you start
- Open Shop Manager and find Settings, then Shipping settings, then Shipping label options.
- Decide which address you are willing to have printed on packages and seen by buyers.
Who this is for
- Etsy sellers who work from home and buy shipping labels through Etsy.
- Sellers who registered an LLC or other business and want to know which address Etsy shows to buyers.
Etsy prints a return address on the shipping labels you buy through Etsy. Etsy calls that address your “return shipping label address,” and it comes from the Shipping From field in your label settings. If you work from home, that field may hold your home address.
Etsy also asks for an address or a location in other places. Some of those are shown to buyers. One business address is shown only to buyers of some business sellers, and only when it differs from the owner’s home address. Others are used to verify your identity or your taxes. This guide sorts them using Etsy’s own help pages, then covers how to move the label address off your home.

Every Etsy Address Field, and Who Sees It
On October 13, 2026, we read nine Etsy Help Center articles about labels, shop setup, payments, and seller information. We listed each place where Etsy asks for an address or a location, and we noted what Etsy says about who sees it. The count came to seven fields.
Based on Etsy’s text, three of the seven are shown to buyers whenever you fill them in. One more, your business address, is shown only for some business sellers, and only when it differs from your home address. Two separate display rules cover that one field. Etsy describes two fields as identity checks. For the remaining field, the page we read says neither whether buyers see it nor what it is used for.
| Etsy field | Where you set it | What Etsy’s help page says | Visible to buyers? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shipping From (return label address) | Settings, Shipping settings, Shipping label options | Etsy calls it your “return shipping label address.” When you buy a label: “Under Shipping from, check that your address is correct.” | Yes, on the label |
| Ship from country and Origin Zip code | Shipping profiles | “Enter the Ship from country and Origin Zip code you’re shipping from.” | Not stated on the page we read |
| Shop location | Settings, Your shop, Shop team, Location | “Adding a location helps your shop and listings appear in local searches.” You pick a city from a dropdown list. | Yes, on listings |
| Public profile City | Account settings, Public Profile | Etsy lists this under “How to update the location on your public profile on Etsy.” | Yes, on your public profile |
| Home address (Etsy Payments, individual) | Etsy Payments signup | Listed with your name and date of birth as details Etsy uses to verify your identity. | Not stated on the pages we read |
| Legal business address (Etsy Payments, business) | Etsy Payments signup as a business | Listed with the entity name and business identification number as business details Etsy verifies. | Not stated on the pages we read |
| Business address (Legal and tax information) | Legal and tax information page, reviewed when Etsy asks you to confirm your seller info | When Etsy asks for this address: “this must be your taxpayer address, and not a PO or Postal Box.” Etsy says the EU trader details are “pulled from your Legal and tax information.” | Only if it differs from your home address. US: in order confirmation emails, for registered businesses with over $20,000 in sales in 12 consecutive months (INFORM Consumers Act). EU: in listings and shop details, for sellers with business or trader status. |

The Two Etsy Rules That Already Skip Your Home Address
Two Etsy display rules have a built-in home-address exception. Both apply to the same business address, and both apply only to some business sellers.
The first rule covers EU buyers. Etsy says this information is shown in shop details and listings for any seller with business or trader status. Etsy’s shop policies page says it displays “your business’s address (only if it’s different from your personal home address).”
The second rule comes from the INFORM Consumers Act, a US law. Etsy says that if you registered as a business and made over $20,000 in sales in 12 consecutive months, “buyers will see your business address in their order confirmation emails.” Etsy adds that this happens “only if it’s different from your primary shop owner's home address.”
The law itself allows this. Under 15 U.S.C. 45f(b)(2)(A)(i), a high-volume seller whose only address is a residence, or whose business and home address are the same, can certify that fact. Upon the seller’s request, the marketplace may then disclose only the country and, if applicable, the state. The next clause lets a seller certify a physical address for product returns, and the marketplace may disclose that address.
The rule has a second effect. If you add a separate business address, Etsy may show that address to buyers. Pick a business address you are willing to have seen.
Why the Shipping Label Is Where a Home Address Shows Up
We found no home-address exception for the Shipping From field in the nine articles we read. The address you enter there is the return address on the label.
USPS requires a return address on several services that Etsy sells labels for. Section 602.1.5.3 of the USPS Domestic Mail Manual (DMM) lists Priority Mail, USPS Ground Advantage, and Priority Mail Express among the mail that must show the sender’s domestic return address. On those services, the practical question is which address goes on the label.
Etsy’s page on Global Postal Shipping labels adds another detail. It says, “Both domestic and international labels include your shop name and return address.” Changing the Shipping From address changes the address on those labels. The shop name stays on them.
How to Change Your Return Address on Etsy
Etsy’s USPS label page gives the steps in its pickup section. Etsy says that if you need to change your pickup address, you should “edit your return shipping label address” before you schedule a pickup.
- 1Choose Shop Manager.
- 2Choose Settings.
- 3Select Shipping settings and Shipping label options.
- 4Enter your new address under Shipping From.
- 5Scroll down to choose Save.
You can also check it on each order. When you buy a label, Etsy says: “Under Shipping from, check that your address is correct. If you need to update your address, select Edit.” Check the address on each new label after the change.
Two other fields can still show the city where you live. Your shop location and public profile city show a city, picked from Etsy’s list. Etsy says that if your exact location is not in the list, you should “choose the nearest city or town that does appear.” Review both fields after you change the label address.
What a Stale or Wrong Return Address Costs You
The return address is where USPS sends a package it cannot deliver. DMM 602.1.5.1 says, “The return address tells the USPS where the sender of a mailpiece wants it returned if the piece cannot be delivered.”
Etsy says the same for Global Postal Shipping labels: “If an item is undeliverable, it will be returned directly to your address.” If your Shipping From field still holds an old address after a move, undeliverable packages go to that old address.
Etsy also links the label address to USPS pickups. If you need to change your pickup address, Etsy tells you to edit your return shipping label address before you schedule a pickup.
Keep the identity fields separate. The Etsy Payments “Home address” field is part of the identity check. Etsy says the information on your ID “must correspond with the information provided during shop setup.” Moving your label address does not mean you should change that field.
Return Address Options: PO Box, Private Mailbox, or Virtual Address
Sellers who move the label address off their home can choose from three types. Each one has limits you can check in USPS or Etsy text.
| Option | What the source says | Limit to check |
|---|---|---|
| PO Box | USPS offers Street Addressing for some PO Boxes, using “the street address of your Post Office location, combined with your PO Box number.” | USPS says Street Addressing lets you receive packages from private carriers such as UPS, FedEx, DHL, and Amazon, as long as they comply with USPS mailing standards. USPS also says it is offered “if available.” Etsy says the address it asks for when you confirm your seller info cannot be a PO Box. |
| Private mailbox (PMB) at a mail-receiving business | USPS calls this business a Commercial Mail Receiving Agency (CMRA). DMM 508.1.8.3 says the address must use “PMB” or the “#” sign with your box number. | USPS rules for delivery to a CMRA require PS Form 1583, Application for Delivery of Mail Through Agent. Your label address should use the PMB (or #) format. |
| Virtual mail address | DMM 508.1.8.1 defines a CMRA as a business that accepts U.S. Mail “on behalf of another person or entity as a business service.” | If the service accepts your mail that way, the CMRA rules in the row above apply. Ask the provider, or check the address yourself. |
Sources: USPS PO Boxes page and USPS Domestic Mail Manual sections 508.1.8.1 and 508.1.8.3, read October 13, 2026.
In the Etsy help pages and searches we ran, we did not find a page that says whether the Shipping From field accepts a PO Box or a PMB. If you plan to use one, check the label preview before you print.
Before you enter a new address, you can see how it is classified with the free address checker. The checker can show whether an address is on record as a CMRA. If it is, the PMB format and Form 1583 rules in the table apply.
Etsy keeps more than one address on file for your shop, and buyers see only some of them. Among the three fields shown to buyers whenever you fill them in, the return label address is the one that holds a full street address. The other two show a city.
Change the Shipping From field, then review your shop location and profile city. Keep your Etsy Payments home address accurate. If you also registered a business, a separate business address may appear in order confirmation emails or to EU buyers. For more ways to keep a home address out of public records, see our guide to keeping a home address private when you form an LLC.
